Being Trans(parent)

Shortly after I first came out to myself as a transgender woman in the middle of 2021, I decided that I wanted to be completely upfront about this aspect of myself when it came to my identity as a writer. The world has come a long way in recent years regarding trans acceptance and I want to do my part to help drive this further.

It took me almost 24 years to realise why I could never really feel happy, and that is largely due to the fact that I had very little understanding of what it meant to be trans. Trans representation is lacking everywhere. I’d guess that’s because most trans people transition and just start living their lives how they have always wanted to. Of course, that’s completely valid, and it’s something I’d like to have in my day-to-day life (which is the beauty of writing under a pen name). This is just an unfortunate reality of the situation, but if I can do something to help raise awareness for trans people and the struggles we go through, I want to do so.

This was something I gave a lot of consideration to. There are a lot of transphobes out there, and I’m almost certain to get threatening messages and hate mail simply for existing. Wouldn’t it be easier to hide this part of myself? It would, but on the other hand, it’s such a huge part of who I am, and I want to embrace that through my work. My novels and stories will undoubtedly feature plenty of trans and LGBT+ characters. I want to be authentic. I want my readers to know why this representation matters to me. That’s why I’m being transparent.

So, without further ado, allow me to introduce myself. I am Jade Talon, a transgender woman and fantasy novelist. I also offer freelance copywriting services if you need that sort of thing. If you don’t have a problem with me being trans, feel free to stick around and check out some of my writing, whether it’s a blog post or a short story relating to my novels.
