About JP Talon

Copywriter

Freelance writing available

I started my copywriting career at Smith Brothers Media – a full-service digital marketing agency in Melbourne – learning from some of the best in the industry. Creating service pages and blogs for local businesses taught me to write in various styles and voices, always in a persuasive and engaging manner. SEO writing is now one of my greatest strengths.

In 2021, I took extra work at Firbank Grammar School, one of Victoria’s most prestigious all-girls private schools. I developed my internal marketing skills there, becoming familiar with the Firbank brand. I also became a master of proofreading handbooks, exterminating hundreds of misplaced commas.

Fantasy Novelist

Creating worlds and living in them

I’ve always adored fantasy, ever since my dad took me to see Attack of the Clones at the cinemas (Star Wars is fantasy in space, and I will die on this hill). I got bored halfway through the movie, complained and then fell asleep until the Battle of Geonosis began. From there, despite the rocky start, I was enthralled with the fantasy genre.

Lord of the Rings was my next fantasy crush, followed by Dungeons & Dragons. Then, as a teenager, I sat in science class one day and had an idea for a fantasy story. I’ve been writing novels ever since. If you’re interested in reading more about my relationship with the genre, check out my essay, Why Can’t I Talk About Fantasy?

To date, I have completed two novels in full – Incarnate and A Fate Entwined, the latter of which I am currently exploring publication options for. Sometimes I will publish short stories set in Raedos (the world of A Fate Entwined) on this website.

Trans Advocate

Raising awareness

Is it risky to use the same website to get copywriting clients and talk about being trans? Almost certainly. To be blunt, though, if somebody has a problem with me being trans, I don’t particularly want them as a client.

I started transitioning late in 2021 and decided early on to be completely open about my experiences. Pretty much everyone could benefit from an opportunity to see transgender people as actual humans. Being an actual human myself, I figured I could help my fellow trans people out by raising some awareness.

Most of the time, when somebody transitions, they take their hormones and (provided they pass as cisgender) blend into society as how they want to be perceived. While that’s what I’d like on a day-to-day basis out in the world, I want to be open about my experiences online, maybe changing how the world sees trans people just a little bit.
